Thursday marked the end of the first week of NaNoWriMo or the National Novel Writing Month. As of right now I am sitting on 25,000 out of 50,000 words and this will be higher by the time I got to be tonight, in just 9 days I have written more than half of the word count I have challenged myself to write in these 30 days.
I have participated in two write-ins so far. The first one was on the 2nd of November. I found it to be very loud and difficult to concentrate and found myself retreating to headphones several times over the few hours I was there, I ended up leaving early due to a headache and a case of over-stimulation. The second write-in I went to was on the Wednesday evening after work. There were less people and I found it to be a lot easier to cope with the environment now that I had both met them and understood the environment I was walking into. I stayed for most of the allocated time our organisers had set up for us. I got several thousand words written in that few hours alone. It was nice and I found it a lot more enjoyable then my first encounter with a crowd of writers I barely knew.
In all I would say that my experience has been amazing so far and I am excited to just how much I can get done in this 30 days. Unless some tragedy befalls me, I know that I will reach the 50,000 words, I just wonder how much I can get done above that.
Unfortunately due to work, study and family commitments I won’t be able to attend the write-ins with the other BrisNaNo writers. Instead I will have to log in virtually when I can and participate through the discord server.
I am definitely looking forward to finishing The Lost (hopefully) by the end of NaNoWriMo this month, the first draft anyway, and potentially start working on the third and final book in The White Wolf Trilogy.
